Description

The BMW R1200C was made famous after being featured in epic chase scenes in the Bond movie Tomorrow Never Dies.

If you like the idea of something fun, practical, but also engineered to standards that many cruisers simply cannot match, then the BMW R1200C is perfect. This bike is genuinely easy to ride, with surprisingly sharp handling, meaty power and excellent rider comfort.

BMW’s R1200C is one of the most striking pieces of automotive design. Most bike firms, especially the Japanese, seem to think that designing a cruiser means copying Harley-Davidson. In contrast, the R1200C is bold and imaginative and is definitely no copy.

The feature that shouts BMW above all is the distinctive flat-twin engine layout. The shaft-drive ’boxer’ motor was a natural choice for the cruiser. The 1170cc, softly tuned fuel injected engine produces 61bhp with plentiful low-rev torque.

The German’s Telelever front suspension system is made a visual feature. Along with a horizontal arm that works the single front shock absorber.

The BMW is crammed with great attention to detail; the large alloy ignition key, leather grips on the end of the cow-horn handlebars and the pillion seat, which hinges up to provide a solo rider with both a backrest and a luggage rack. The result is a bike that is gorgeous and get comments everywhere it goes.

The R1200C is also great fun to ride, whether you’re cruising on the open road or rumbling along the High Street.

If the R1200C’s engine performance is good, its chassis is a revelation. Large-capacity cruisers are usually big, softly sprung brutes that don’t like going round corners. Did anyone say Harley?

The BMW’s unique suspension combined with grippy tyres and generous ground clearance make twisty roads very entertaining. The low centre of gravity makes town riding extremely balanced.

Our vendor went to a motorcycle show on Canary Wharf several years ago after seeing the BMW R1200 on the road. He decided that he wanted one. He spoke to a rep on the BMW stand and asked him to source one that was as near to new as possible, two years later the chap came up with the goods and found our vendor this example which had only 4,156 miles on the clock.

The vendor has never ridden it on the road, only on his private land in Essex – mileage now reads 4,157.

He has not had it MOT’d during his ownership as he didn’t intend on taking it on the road. He will put a full year’s MOT on for the new owner.

The BMW is beautifully built; deep chrome, gleaming alloy, the ivory paint adds retro appeal.

A motorbike must ride well too. Performing as a stunt bike on a major blockbuster says it all. What are you waiting for? Channel your inner James Bond.

Vehicle Location: Braintree, Essex CM7 – it’s the responsibility of the winning bidder to make collection / transportation arrangements directly with the vendors.

Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So, we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at team@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to get back to you, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important, and we are here to help and answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage buyers to view or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images, please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
