Portfolio What’s it like to own.. a Morris Traveller

I bought a 1968 Traveller in the mid 70s for £150,(those were the days!)

The chap I bought it from worked for Castrol so it had an oil change every month whether it needed it or not. Everything about the car was spot on except the dreaded wooden frame.

Replacement was not an option (cost) so with the help of a friend who was brilliant at repairing body work we scraped out the rotted parts, treated it with stuff used for window repairs bought from B&Q. Then we filled the the whole lot with fibre glass repair putty, (was it P48?) anyway the result was amazing, he sprayed it with black gloss paint and against the bright blue body work looked stunning.

The cherry on the cake was a Jaguar leaping cat emblem on the bonnet which I purchased for £3. I kept the moggie for 2 years before selling it for £350. I’ve had many cars since but I’ll never have one that bought me and my family such great joy. (I still keep a spare 150 quid just in case).
