The Jaguar E-type needs no introduction. An achingly beautiful sports car. Perfectly designed and iconic. Its long hood, low stance and curvaceous lines are to die for. The legendary straight-six XK engine providing an un-paralleled driving experience. Even stationary, it has a presence like no other classic

We are delighted and honoured to be able to bring this E-type to market. Simply put, this is an amazing opportunity to purchase a simply stunning Jaguar Series 2 E-type.

History and paperwork

  • First registered 15 August 1969
  • That owner kept it for 28 years
  • Jon Lord, the co-founder of Deep Purple, owned this E-type (image courtesy of Rockstar Cars)
  • Jon drove this E-type to Montreux when the group recorded Smoke On The Water, and was photographed there with the vehicle
  • The file with this E-type goes all the way back to 1975
  • Our vendor Ken, has owned this Series 2 since 2012
  • He drove it for six months, then decided to complete a comprehensive rebuild

Although the evidence of the work is clear to see, we also have all the invoices.

Ken is no stranger to Jaguars in general. This is Ken’s second completed E-type. The first E-type was displayed on the Meguiars stand at the NEC. A well-known and very wealthy member of the classic car community saw the car and purchased it, there and then. Ken describes, this Jaguar E-type that we have at auction ‘better than the first one’.

 Inside

  • An outstanding condition interior
  • Seats are retrimmed in grey leather
  • Carpets in excellent order
  • Switchgear and dials working perfectly

The interior condition of this fabulous E-Type is incredible. The upholstery has been fully retrimmed the grey leather seats look splendid. Invoices are on file from Aldridge Trimming in the West Midlands.

Steering wheel, dashboard, carpets, headlining, etc are all in wonderful condition.

There are no modifications to the inside of this E-type. It is, as far as it is possible,  rebuilt to mirror the factory specification. We find it a struggle to see anything different.

Outside

  • Bare metal, professional repaint in Jet Black (the Jaguar was previously Cream)
  • The new Dunlop chrome wire wheels are ‘perfect
  • Tremendous condition underneath.
  • All the chrome and brightwork has been re-chromed.
  • With the exception of the front screen, all the glass is original with date stamps.

Once the body had been fully stripped it was transported to a professional classic body repair shop. It stayed with them for three months while they carried out their comprehensive work. We understand the cost of that work was c.£10,000.

We have invoices on file for when all the brightwork was re-chromed.

As good as the images are, they struggle to do justice to how fabulous this Jaguar E-type is. We’re told it is  “as clean underneath as it is on top” with no corrosion or rust, a point which is demonstrated by the undercar photographs.

Mechanicals

  • Engine rebuilt and runs perfectly
  • New engine block
  • Stainless steel twin exhaust system
  • Drives beautifully

The E-type is very usable. The 4.2-litre engine mated to an automatic box is considered by many connoisseurs to be the very best and most practical combination. The fantastically strong engine runs with no problems. The engine block was inspected in 2000 and found to have a fault. A new one was sourced. We understand the head is original but obviously overhauled.

The suspension was re-built or renewed as required. All invoices from S&G Barrett are on file.

Additional Information

As you’d expect, this E-type is a star in its own right. It is very well-known. That being the case, it is booked in to a number of classic car events this Summer. Ken has kindly said he will pass all those bookings and details on to the lucky new owner.

Ken would welcome viewings from serious bidders. It currently sits in a de-humidified and heated garage. So could we ask, please, only book a viewing through us if you really are very interested. Who wouldn’t be, frankly.

Our view

We are not often lost for words. This Jaguar E-type needs very few from us.

A classic that has been fully, and we do mean fully rebuilt, then inspected multiple times by knowledgeable scrutineers of the marque and has come away with numerous awards. This says far more than we ever can.

This is a stunning and very well sorted classic Jaguar E-type. In this condition, it’s very usable as an everyday classic car.

Five years ago E-types in this condition were well into six figures. They have settled. Today they are edging back up again. Good ones are doing very well. If you’re looking for an exceptionally good one, if not probably the best E-type on the market right now, reserved very sensibly, then this is the one.

Good luck bidding! Please remember, our site uses anti-sniping software which ensures fairness to all bidders. So, if a bid for a lot is received in the last minute, the auction will go into a 2-minute overtime period for each subsequent bid.

Vehicle Location: Basingstoke, Berkshire RG26 – it’s the responsibility of the winning bidder to make collection / transportation arrangements directly with the vendor.

 Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s are worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage bidders to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
