Is there anything that says Summer is around the corner more than a classic MGB Roadster? Especially in a striking colour such as this one…

MGBs come in all sorts of conditions. This one has had a lot of money spent on it and is ready to jump in and simply enjoy.

Background and history

The classic MGBs are popular for a reason; they’ll put a smile on your face every time you hop in. Easy to drive, easy to live with and great fun. This is a very smart MGB Roadster.

Introduced in 1962 as an open-top Roadster only, the MGB went on to become one of the UK’s most loved classic sports cars. That popularity sees no sign of diminishing. Multiple owners’ clubs and an entire industry has built up around the MGB; they are such a fabulous classic car.

  • First registered 4 July 1973
  • Beautiful ‘Harvest Gold’ colour
  • Freshly returned from a body shop
  • Mechanical items and wiring overhauled
  • Over £5,000 spent since October 2023

The vendor informs us that this recent work has included full bare metal respray in original colour, full underbody Lanoguard protection, new exterior chrome trim down both sides (wings, doors, arches), brand new set of carburettors along with some corrosion issues being rectified on the metal plating behind both headlights.

We have also been told that the engine has had some recent fettling, with the heads being removed and uprated valves fitted so the car can be filled up and run happily on normal unleaded fuel

The previous owner was reported to have used this car as daily classic commuter during finer weather, travelling around 10 miles to and from his workplace. The car is supplied with a lot of paperwork from his ownership showing regular maintenance and repairs, including a new exhaust system.

Mechanicals

The classic MGB B-Series 1798cc engine is a strong, flexible, smooth engine. Added to that is a distinctive sound track every time you depress your right foot or change up and down the easy shifting gear box.

  • The B-Series engine has been described as ‘starting on the button and running spot on’
  • A folder containing a detailed history will be supplied with the car
  • New carbs fitted this year
  • Although exempt, this MGB has an MOT until 8th August 2024
  • No advisories mentioned on the last few MOT’s

Outside

The earlier chrome bumper MGB roadsters are by far the most popular MGBs.

  • When our vendor bought this MGB, it was in decent enough condition
  • The previous owner had carried out some paintwork repairs
  • Our vendor decided it could have been done to a higher standard
  • Subsequently, the MGB was sent to be stripped and a bare metal respray was undertaken
  • We’re told that process took around three months from start to finish
  • The underside was treated in Lanoguard during this time

You can judge the results from the images in the Gallery.

  • Black hood
  • Rear screen is clear and mist free
  • Chrome boot mounted luggage rack
  • Wire wheels

Inside

The interior of this MGB is very smart and in good, clean condition.

  • Black vinyl seats
  • Headrests
  • Full width polished wooden dash
  • Wood-trimmed steering wheel
  • Wooden gear lever knob
  • Black carpets in good condition

Inside, the MGB Roadster, everything falls nicely to hand. The short, crisp gear changes make driving a complete joy. Everything is as it should be and all in good working order.

The black vinyl seats are very good, as you can see for yourself from the images. The carpets have also stood the test of time.

Summary

Affordable, great to drive and easy to live with. There are few cars that deliver as much fun-per-mile as an MGB Roadster. Their light weight, engaging steering and decent power are the perfect antidote to modern life.

Whether this is your first foray into classic car ownership, or one of many, this very smart MGB Roadster is not to be missed. Good luck bidding.

Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So, we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at team@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to get back to you, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important, and we are here to help and answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage buyers to view or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images, please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
