Back at auction due to previous buyer reneging on the sale

The Lancia Fulvia was launched at the Geneva Motor Show in 1963. The Fulvia went on to become one of the manufacturer’s most successful cars and a sought-after classic today. This Italian classic is special in a number of ways. The compact V4 mounted ahead of the front axle line, sending its power to the front wheels. The advanced suspension and brakes. And its giant killing success in events such as the Monte Carlo rally. The mighty Mini Cooper is the only classic that compares.

History and background

Our vendor, Andy, has produced a refreshingly candid video. He described the Lancia to us as a ‘rolling restoration’. Andy’s helpful video means we don’t have to say too much. Anyway, when it comes to the Lancia Fulvia, if you know – you know.

  • The Fulvia was available in three variants; Berlina (4 door saloon). Coupe and Sport. An additional Coupe, designed and built by Zagato based on the existing Coupe floor pan.
  • The Fulvia Coupe was introduced in 1965 designed in-house by Piero Castagnero. It was the final Fulvia model. The coupe lasted until 1976.
  • The Series 3 Coupe arrived in 1974.
  • This S3 Coupe was first registered 12 February 1975
  • UK RHD drive spec
  • This Fulvia had a colour change from brown to the current colour in 1992 (according to DVLA/HPI)
  • The engine does turn over by hand but has not been started.

Our vendor Andy acquired this Fulvia to restore. Other projects have taken over and this Fulvia is now a rolling project for someone else to take on.

As you may have noticed in the images, the door cappings are currently missing from the Fulvia. However, after a bit of searching, our vendor has managed to source another set. These replacement cappings will come with the car.

Overview

The Fulvia was super-advanced for the 1970s. The engineering was a well-trodden path. A heritage that could be drawn back to the 1930s Augusta.

The Fulvia front end uses a clever transverse leaf design controlling the wishbones and the front wheel drive. At the rear, it uses leaf springs on each side secured to a beam axle and a Panhard rod. Disc brakes are fitted all round.

Then there is that Lancia V4 engine. Designed by Zaccone Mina, the Fulvia’s narrow-angle DOHC Lancia V4 engine was mounted well forward and then tipped at a 45° angle. Its new design used a narrow 12-degree v-bank, allowing a single cylinder head to cover with dual cams for intake and exhaust valves. Its diminutive size started out at just 1091cc

The Series 3 was updated at launch in 1974. It gained the same engine as the earlier Series 2, 1.3 S model, except for the addition of emission control on the Solex carburettors. The gearbox was updated to the five-speed dogleg box, too.

Inside, the Series 3 had a slight update, with the new design of seats with integrated headrests and new white-faced Jaeger instrument dials.

Summary

What an opportunity this is for someone. Classic Italian styling. Advanced mechanicals. That exhilarating 1300cc V4. This was the last proper Lancia. With prices of well sorted RHD drive models selling for £18,000-£22,000, if you know – you know.

Vehicle Location: Pontefract, West Yorkshire WF7 – it’s the responsibility of the winning bidder to make collection / transportation arrangements directly with the vendors.

Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that and, in a sector, where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’ on a vehicle.

Let’s be honest, everyone knows the broad value of a classic and the ‘market’ decides – the old cliché that ‘it’s worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, if you’d like us to provide an estimate that’s fine, just email us and we’ll get back to you.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect, and your own analysis is very important, and we are here to help and answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage buyers to view or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics. So, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, assume that the vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in their life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology continues to improve, but please understand that image and sound quality varies. If you would like more images, please ask us and we will contact our vendor for you.

Finally, please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired via an auction site. If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.
