The classic MGBs are popular for a reason; they’ll put a smile on your face every time you jump in. Easy to drive, easy to live with and great fun.

Introduced in 1962 as an open-top Roadster only, the MGB went on to become the UK’s most loved classic sports cars.

That popularity today sees no sign of diminishing. Multiple owners’ clubs and an entire industry has built up around the MGB; they are such a fabulous classic car.

History of this MGB Roadster

  • First registered 27 May 1976
  • Registered as an historic vehicle – Tax/MOT exempt
  • Our vendor purchased this last year
  • Since then he has carried out several little jobs
  • New Front brake pads
  • Coolant hoses renewed
  • Alternator replaced
  • New heater valve
  • Both front track rod end boots replaced
  • Serviced
  • Passenger mirror replaced
  • Covered around only 500 miles since purchase

Inside

The interior of this MGB is tidy, original and in good clean orderly condition.

  • Black vinyl seats
  • Three spoke steering wheel
  • Hood in decent condition
  • Rear screen is clear and fog free

Inside the MGB, everything falls nicely to hand. The short, crisp gear changes make driving a joy. Everything is as it should be and all in good working order. The outer ‘crinkle’ covering on the dash is starting to decay in a couple of places, but that is a straightforward fix. The main dash, dials and controls all look good and operate correctly.

The black vinyl seats are good, as you can see for yourself from the images. The driver’s seat has a vertical split in a seam. The carpets have stood the test of time. Images of the inside of the boot reveal a tidy space with an original Rostyle.

Outside

  • Smart, tidy condition
  • In Tartan Red
  • Minilites
  • Chrome, brightwork and lamps all looking good

Overall, this is a smart, clean MGB Roadster. The swage lines, door, bonnet and boot gaps all look clean and consistent. Although the MGB looks to have been no stranger to a good polish on a Sunday the vendor does describe the outside as; “Needs tidying and the paint has faded on bonnet and boot”.

Overall, as you can see from the images there are the usual areas you’d normally associate with an MGB of this age.

Mechanicals

The classic MGB B-Series 1800cc engine is a strong, flexible, smooth engine.

Added to that is a unique rasp of the engine and exhaust every time you depress your right foot.

The engine bay looks like it could do with a cosmetic tidy up. That is a fettle for the new owner to enjoy.

The engine comes complete with original features such as the ‘cake tin’ air filters. Features like this are usually a sign of a cared for classic. We’re told this MGB Roadster “drives really well”.

Bottom line

Affordable, great to drive and easy to live with. There are few cars that deliver as much fun-per-mile as an MGB Roadster. Their light weight, engaging steering and decent power are the perfect antidote to modern life.

Whether this is your first foray into classic car ownership, or one of many, this smart MGB Roadster is well worth a look..
