A bobber, originally called a ‘bob-job’ from the 1930s through to the 1990s, is a style of custom motorcycle. The typical construction includes stripping excess bodywork from a motorcycle; often removing the front mudguard, and shortening the rear one, which is “bobbed” (as in bob-tail), and all superfluous parts removed to reduce weight.

A very attractive and hugely popular style of motorcycle that did not usually change the bikes handling characteristics enough to diminish the safety and handling of the original bike, unlike Chopper bikes that often have frames “Chopped” forks changed and suspension altered.

The Bike

Standing back and admiring the quality and finish of this one-off Kawasaki Bobber sends our minds racing back to heady days at the world-famous Ace Café, where you would see many of these bikes proudly shown off by their riders and builders.

The Bobber scene has become immensely popular again over recent years, to the extent that not only are the custom scene building them, but they have also become more mainstream with almost every manufacturer releasing one year on year to deliver to a growing band of Bobber loving bikers.

This stunning Kawasaki Bobber was originally built by its previous owner and deserves to be part of anyone’s’ motorbike collection. In fact, you could argue that is just what it became to our vender, as he only managed to put 2,000 miles on the odometer during his ownership, one of the reasons he has decided to find it a new home, another being so that someone can enjoy its ride as well as the stunning aesthetics.

Starting life as a humble Kawasaki VN800, a popular choice for this Bobber customs and a very decent bike in its own right. The transformation has been somewhat of a revelation, some would say a metamorphosis.  Whatever you want to call it, we absolutely love it and are astounded by the sheer amount of effort that has gone into making it the example that it has become.

Firstly, you will notice the Harley Davidson Pearl White tank, mudguards and side panels which really fit with the design.  Add to that the stunning engine casings and cam covers and you start to appreciate the work that has gone into the bike.

The chrome does not stop there, the single headlamp, forks, mirrors, instrument cluster and chain guard all sparkle in the sunlight, even the grips and seat springs match the Chrome theme.

The black rims are contrasted with the white walls on modern grippy rubber that look like they have hardly seen any tarmac and the finishing kit of levers, gearchange and brake pedals etc all present extremely well.

The Kawasaki Bobber will be supplied to the new owner with the V5, fifteen of its previous MOT’s warranting the 40k mileage- with the last one expiring on 4th July 2024.  There is also a handful of receipts showing various purchases over recent years.

Our View

With a very realistic reserve and such a great deal of love, energy and investment lavished on arguably one of the best presented Bobbers we have seen in some time, the winning bidder is going to be one happy bunny as they swing that leg over it for the first time.  As the vendor shared, it would be a shame not to enjoy this Kawasaki Bobber as it should be, but even if you do plan to just stand and stare at it, you won’t be disappointed.

A lovely, lovely machine.
