Description

  • An XJR homage
  • Current ownership for 15 years
  • In stunning Mistral Blue
  • 4.0-litre V8 engine
  • Automatic

In launching the Jaguar XJ8, the manufacturer went for the jugular. The seventh-gen XJ was one of Coventry’s most advanced production cars ever. Yet they managed to pull off the trick of it being unmistakably a Jaguar XJ. Today, 22 years later, they are most definitely a sought after modern classic.

This Jaguar XJ8 Sovereign V8 edition has all the bells and whistles and then some. This XJ8 has been well cared for and in one family for the last 15 years.

Background

  • First registered 9th June 2000
  • MOT’d until December 2023
  • Father and son owned for 15 years
  • Two sets of keys and a valet key
  • V5 recently changed as the private registration was removed
  • Recent invoice for £3,500 on bodywork

Inside

The interior styling of the Jaguar XJ8 is hard to beat. This Sovereign is roomy, light and airy. Although being decidedly modern it retains its classic Jaguar signature of polished-walnut with sumptuous trim levels.  The spec includes:

  • Sunroof
  • Electric memory seats
  • Tinted Windows
  • Front Light Smoke
  • Rear windows Medium Smoke
  • Windscreen as standard
  • Cream leather interior with Coffee piping
  • Multi-function steering wheel
  • Heated seats
  • Walnut veneer
  • CD player

For its age and mileage, the inside of the Jaguar is pretty remarkable really.

We could see no signs of damage to either the walnut veneer or the upholstery in the Sovereign. The cream leather is all good. The driver’s seat obviously show signs of wear, but as you can see from our Image Gallery it is okay.

The carpets and over-mats are all good. We are informed that everything works as it should.

Outside

This XJ8 is a good looking car. This XJ8 has been modelled on the Jaguar XJ-R. And very nice it looks too.

  • Fully colour coded wing mirrors
  • De-chromed
  • Colour coded grill surround
  • Colour coded boot bezel
  • A super looking XJ8 with the exterior looking every inch like an XJ-R

Unmistakably a Jaguar. At the front-end of the Sovereign, the overhang is shorter, along with the bonnet. The windscreen is raked more steeply for a sporty appearance. The Jaguar XJ8 is much bigger than previous models, it is taller by 134mm and has more space between the axles for cabin space.

This Jaguar XJ8 Sovereign comes with:

  • Penta 18” alloys refurbished in bright sparkle silver
  • Bespoke side wing vents
  • Bespoke grill vents wide mesh
  • Boot spoiler finisher
  • Chrome wide bore tailpipe finishers
  • Fully colour coded wing mirror surrounds, grille surround and boot bezel

Whilst in our vendor’s ownership, he has spent £3.5k on bodywork for the car alone – the invoice for this from Gary Lee Panel Craft in Upminster is in our Gallery.

Finished in a stunning Mistral Blue metallic paintwork, this Jaguar XJ8 Sovereign certainly looks very good. The bespoke vents, wheels and other additions make this car stand out from a run of the mill X308.

Mechanicals

Engineers found the sweet spot between performance, suspension and comfort with the Jaguar XJ8. A lot of that is down to the air-suspension system and speed-sensitive steering. The roaring power of the 4.0-litre V8 engine makes this Jaguar XJ8 as agile as its animal namesake..

It’s an effortless cruiser and the set-up is more driver-oriented than you might expect, but without spoiling ride quality or refinement.

We are told that this Jaguar XJ8 Sovereign is in good mechanical order and comes with a fresh MOT issued on 6th December. Open the bonnet and it’s clear that the car has been looked after. The engine bay is in the same good order as the rest of the car.

The car runs and idles with absolute ease, as you can see from the video, the 4.0-litre V8 engine ticks over smoothly.

The Jag has FSH up to 140k miles back in 2015 – since then it’s been garaged and has done just 19k miles. Service book images are in the Gallery.

Our view.

Let’s get the elephant in the room out of the way – the mileage. Any classic that has travelled this distance would have needed looking after. That is a major plus and the reserve is set sensibly to reflect.

It is clear that this a very well kept example of a Jaguar XJ8 in rather unusual Sovereign mode. Take a look.

Plus, over 15 years in one family – that also says a lot about a classic car. These are now emerging from their slumber and being recognised for the great Jaguar classics they are. Our advice? Get in while the market is asleep to their significance. Good luck bidding.

Please remember, our site uses anti-sniping software which ensures fairness to all bidders. So, if a bid for a lot is received in the last minute, the auction will go into a 2-minute overtime period for each subsequent bid.

Vehicle Location: Upminster, Essex RM14  – it’s the responsibility of the buyer to make collection / transportation arrangements directly with the vendor.

Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage buyers to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
