Description

  • 3.0 litre V6 AWD
  • Rare facelift manual car
  • Two former owners
  • One of only five registered in the UK
  • Service History
  • Black over Black paint and trim

The Jaguar X-Type was launched in 2001. With a blend of classic Jaguar XJ styling, powerful engines and sporty heritage, the X-Type compact executive saloon was easily a rival for the 3-Series and Audi’s A4.

The X-Type drove very well. It was as comfortable, light and precise and wonderfully equipped. Throughout its nine-year production run, the X-Type was Jaguar’s best seller.

The very early model downsides meant the Jaguar X-Type had a slow start. However, year on year the X-Type just kept improving. The very late face-lift models like the car we have here, are easily the best. This one has the added bonus of being produced in very limited numbers as a limited edition Manual V6 Sports Premium.

History

  • Two previous owners
  • The last keeper owned for 13 years until 2021
  • Solid service history – much with Jaguar Main Dealer
  • MoT’d until March 2023
  • Two keys
  • Factory handbooks
  • Original tool kit

Our vendor purchased from the previous owner with the expectation of keeping the car to cherish and enjoy but unfortunately circumstances have changed and he is now having to reluctantly part company with the X-Type.

Inside

  • Exclusive Premium Sport packaged trim levels
  • Believed to be all original
  • Very good condition

On the inside, this X-Type is true to its heritage. It is every bit a Jaguar.

The unusual diamond shaped cross-stitched black leather trim suits the Jaguar very well. If you look closely you’ll see the usual wear associated with a classic that has been used and enjoyed, not stored. It’s not concours perfect, few cars are. But overall the interior is good and has worn considerably well. Our vendor is being straight, we’re probably being picky.

In the later models and in particular in this Limited Edition, Jaguar’s build quality has lasted well.

Also bear in mind this is a two previous owner Jaguar. It is not the typical X-Type that has had numerous owners and looks tired and ragged. That means this one stands well above the current market.

Our vendor says everything functions as it should.

Outside

  • Premium Sport trims and badging
  • Black trim
  • Alloy wheels

The Jaguar X-Type is typical Jaguar in many respects, except one; external build quality. Gone are inconsistent panel gaps and lines. Everything fits and shuts just a premium classic should.

The black-on-black paintwork and trim looks good, giving the X-Type a great presence.  This is added to on the later models by Jaguar’s continuous improvement which resulted in the design of a nose down stance on the Jag.

The Premium Sport Line upgrades and final face-lift of this year ending model all add to the appeal.

The outside has not remained immune from the British weather and roads. There’s the odd stone chip and blemish. We suspect they could be sorted with a professional valet and detailer if the new owners was minded. You’ll see from the Image Gallery through some injudicious parking manoeuvres mean the alloys have not been a stranger to the kerb. They are capable of being sorted with a good refurb, which is within the skill of many of us over a weekend

Our vendor says he has noticed some bubbling on the offside front wing near the Jaguar badge, also along the offside rear door window rubber. The bumpers are free from any scuffs, splits or damage as far we can see. We have also been advised that the car was undersealed during a period of warm, dry weather. Taking the whole condition of the Jaguar into account, it is rather nice.

Mechanicals

  • Last serviced in July 2021, at 61,529 miles
  • New rear differential
  • New brakes
  • Clutch have been replaced
  • Good history
  • Drives fantastically

The previous owner had the X-Type looked after almost exclusively by a Jaguar Main Dealer. The Gallery shows the extent of the paperwork with Jaguar. It has clearly been well looked after.

The V6 engines are the ones to have. The 3.0 litre was described at the time as being best in class. That is probably why the X-Type was so popular. It’s seen to be a tremendous engine, both smooth and powerful. The AWD with the manual box is a rare treat and the whole combination is a smart one.

The X-Type passed its last MoT in March 2022 first time with no advisories and our vendor’s mechanic has just put his test kit on her and there are no fault codes which gives peace of mind to any bidders.

Our view

There is no denying Jaguar X-Types can be picked up for very little money. However, the market is awash with early clapped out front wheel drive only cars with knackered 2.0 diesel engines.

This facelifted manual 3.0 litre V6 AWD Premium Sport X-Type is pretty unique and as far away from them as you could possibly get. Do not confuse the two.

  • Uber rare in this package – apparently there are only five manual cars registered and on the road in the UK, so you’re not likely to see another coming the other way!
  • Huge original factory specification
  • In very decent condition
  • Original toolkit and full-size spare wheel
  • 2 keys, handbooks and manuals
  • With good room for improvement with some winter garage elbow grease liberally applied

What makes a good classic car? Good ownership. Decent history. Sound condition.

This X-Type has all those ingredients. It is an emerging classic and a collector’s item, no question. And right now it is just on the cusp. In a few years’ time these X-Types will not be available for the reserve it is at today. Over to you.

Good luck bidding! Please remember, our site uses anti-sniping software which ensures fairness to all bidders. So, if a bid for a lot is received in the last minute, the auction will go into a 2-minute overtime period for each subsequent bid.

Vehicle Location: Hitchin, Herts SG5– it’s the responsibility of the buyer to make collection / transportation arrangements directly with the vendor post auction.

Guide Prices?

We’re different. But you know that. And we’re always honest. In a sector where no two classics are same, how does anyone put a ‘guide’.

Well, everyone knows the broad value of classic, let’s all be honest. So we don’t need to tell you what you already know, do we.

The ‘market’ decides and the old cliché that ‘it’s worth what someone wants to pay’ is no less true. So why kid everyone!

But, because we are different, if it really does matter to you, that’s fine, we want you to be happy. Just drop us a line at auction@evoke-classics.com and one of us will be delighted to ring you back and discuss, it’s what we do.

Tedious but it’s vital you read this, please.

We will always strive to offer the most descriptive and transparent auction listings available. However, we can’t claim to be perfect. Your own analysis is very important and we are here to help and also answer any and all queries you may have prior to purchase.

We offer and positively encourage buyers to view, or arrange inspections for each vehicle thoroughly prior to bidding.

If we do take a physical, as opposed to a remote, look at any of the vehicles on our platform, they are not those of a qualified vehicle inspector or other professional. Nor do they include a test drive unless expressly stated.

As with all vehicles of a certain age, localised paint repairs are common. This specifically applies with classics.

So, please, unless we state explicitly to the contrary, please assume that classic vehicles on our platform could have had remedial bodywork of any kind at some point in its life.

Two final comments on images and photos.

The vast majority are supplied by vendors. Camera technology has and continues to improve significantly, but please note and understand that image and sound quality does vary. If you would like vendors to provide more images please ask us and we will contact the vendor for you.

If you are at all unsure, just ask us. It is what we are here for.

Finally, finally, finally. Please note that vehicles are sold as seen and a returns policy is not applicable. This is the norm for used items acquired at auction.
